Stage 1-How I Love You

I had been looking for this cd for the longest time. This was the first gift I have ever received from a very good friend. And I had to misplace it! I remember taking the CD cover off because, well...it's a little "too gay" for me (see pic). It's a well known fact that there's a long standing love affair between gay men and musical theatre. How else do you explain the fascination with Ethel, Liza and Barbra? This CD contains Broadway love songs sung BY men TO men. "We Kiss In A Shadow" (from The King and I) was, for a long time, practically the gay national anthem, describing how many of us felt about our love lives. "I Have Dreamed", from the same musical, was the perfect counterpoint and brings home the fact that for a long time, most of us dreamt (or still do) of how it feels to be in the arms of the one you love. And now, the whole CD is in my iPod.

...we kissed in a shadow
we hide from the moon
our meetings are few and over too soon

we speak in a whisper
afraid to be heard
when peole are near, we speak not a word

alone in our secrets
together we sigh
for one smiling day to be free
to kiss in the sunlight
and say to the sky 'behold and believe what you see'
'behold how my lover loves me'

i have dreamed that your arms are lovely
i have dreamed what a joy you'd be
i have dreamed every word you whisper
when you're close, close to me
how you look in the glow of evening
i have dreamed and enjoyed the view
in these dreams i loved you so
that by now i think i know
what it's like to be loved by you
i will love being loved by you

alone and awake
i've looked at the stars
the same that smiled on you
and time and again
i've thought of the things
that you were thinking, too...
