It's Raining Men!
It's Raining Men!
Funny, this one...
Before I left for Manila on March 21, I knew that when I got back, my workplace will be under "new management". What I didn't know was who the new managers are going to be. But let me begin with this guy...
He is the current assistant adminsitrator and human resources manager for this group who had taken over the operations of our unit. He happens to be Filipino and has a business management degree from UST. On my first day back, he introduced himself and we chatted for a while. The next day, he boldly came up to me and asked me out! I almost laughed in his face! Not that I don't want to go out with him, but there are issues that I don't want to deal with:
Red Flag 1 He's from work. In a way, he has some authority over me as far as work schedule is concerned. I've dated someone from work before and it was not easy!
Red Flag 2 He's not out. "No one knows" according to him. Yeah, I wanted to say, "you're also 35 years old and never dated or introduced a girlfriend to your family." They must know!
Red Flag 3 He wears pleated pants with oversized dress shirts. Ugh! I'm so sorry...pleated pants are a definite turn off. He has a nice body but prefers to hide it in big, baggy clothes. I have no idea why.
Red Flag 4 As someone from HR, he has seen my personal file (not that there's anything secret in it) and was a little overwhelmed by how much I make. According to him, he's nowhere close. What the heck was that about? It's not like I'm going to marry him! Or ask him to support me. Jeez!
Red Flag 5 His last relationship lasted a month. His ex said that he was "too controlling". Hello!
Moving right along...
Now the second guy is from the good ol' internet. He saw me online and decided to chat. Having nothing else better to do, I humored the man. Turns out that he's actually nice. During the conversation, several things came up...
Red Flag 1 He's in Manila. He's graduating from a nursing school as a second degree. He's using it to come over this way. Now, I don't have any problems with people trying to have better lives, but come on, now...Well, he can take my job. I'm tired of it anyway. I've done the Manila thing and I don't know if I'm ready to do it again
Red Flag 2 He has a kid. 3 years old now. Sounded like a "love child". He's not married to the mother and he has custody of the child. Never imagined myself babysitting for free...
Red Flag 3 Obviously not out. Said he "just discovered himself a few years ago." Huh? I couldn't get past this one so the rest of the conversation was just a blur.
Red Flag 4 Has no idea of what long term relationships are and what for. He even said that it can't be possible that two guys would be together for the rest of their lives. His "relationships" with other guys before were purely for "pleasure". Hey, five points for honesty but minus fifty points for stupidity!
Last weekend, I received a call from a guy whom I dated two years (and for those tracking time, yes, it was before I met him) ago. I was surprised but intrigued that he would call after all this time. He's a physical therapist, an ABC (American Born Chinoise) and a nice guy. After the usual how-are-you's, he asked if I was still dating, and I said, "No, I broke up with him."
Red Flag 1 "So is it okay, if we start dating?" What the heck, he gives great massages anyway. I said, "No strings attached, right?" He says, "What do you mean?". I said, "Just because I am dating you does not mean we're a couple." "Oh...I thought that was the whole idea." Great, I start having dinner with him and he starts thinking that I am in love with him!
Red Flag 2 His mom is here visiting from Los Angeles. Has been "visiting" for the last six months and no plans of going back anytime soon. He is not out. Goodness gracious! 36 years old and can't even be honest with his own mother!
Red Flag 3 His idea of dinner previously was at this really cheap all-you-can-eat buffet. This restaurant was closed down before for not passing city health inspections standards. I told him and he doesn't believe me. Yuck! I'd go to Burger King first.
So strike three. Interesting stuff though. The first guy is very much a relationship material if I was really, really, really patient. But since I'm not, then he doesn't have a good chance. The second one was good for laughs and nothing else. The third could also have been a catch. But I don't really care for Chinese food that much.
Neeeeexxxxttttttt !!!
