Dubai in San Francisco

So six Filipino gay guys watch the movie in San Francisco. Which, actually, turns out to be good. The movie, I mean. But of course, we probably were the loudest group in there. While everybody else was close to tears or were actually crying, we were having fits of laughter. The comments were outrageous: "Ayannnnn, re-reypin na si John Lloyd ng mga Arabo. Daliii!". "Ang gwapo pa rin talaga ni Aga." "Laki ng boobs ni Claudine." "Gaga, kakalamas yan ni Raymart." "Cute pala ni John Lloyd. Pero sana, gumamit ng concealer no? Mukhang racoon sa close ups!" On the scene where Aga's and John Lloyd's charaters were fighting: "Parang Brokeback Mountain. Very homoerotic!" "Kadiri ka...ano yan, incestous chuva???" "Pwede rin. Bareback Mountain ang chika." Hahahahahahahaha!!!
The film wasn't subtitled at all. From the looks of the audience, there probably wasn't a non-Tagalog speaking/comprehending person in there. With the Bay Area's huge Filipino community, ABS should have shown this film in San Francisco for at least two weeks (like in LA). But it's a great idea to show current Filipino movies in local theaters. With enough publicity and with really good movies, I think they can make a mark in the local cinema.
The best line in the movie: "Mahal ko pa rin si Raffy." To which all six gay Filipino guys gave a collective, loud gasp and made everyone in the theater laugh. Guess you had to have been there.
