The New iPod

And finally, without too much fanfare, Apple released the iPod video. Available in black or white, 30 ($349) or 60 ($399) GB memory. To say the least, it is awesome. The screen is 2.5" and provides crisp video. You can put any combinations of songs, videos (movies, TV series episodes and song videos) and photos. For now, the videos can be bought online , like iTunes, and downloaded when the iPod is synched. The videos available are limited, mostly Disney and ABC-TV, and will be $2 each (99 cents for music from iTunes). Like the missed episodes of "Desperate Housewives" or "Lost". The more interesting thing that Apple is saying is that with a software upgrade later on, you can even download your own dvds! But they have to be legal dvds because there will be a "code" that you have to enter in order to "unlock" the dvd and allow it to be "copied". DVDs now are already encoded with this "secret code" apparently. And only DVDs can be copied; no VCDs or any other video formats. Those who have "dual disc" cds are in luck. Dual disc cds have the songs on one side and the videos (of some of the songs) on the other side. Those can also be legally downloaded into the iPod. You can only download videos to the new iPod using the dvd player on your PC or Mac. Some software issue, I guess.
So what am I supposed to do??? Well, I bought a Nano a while back and returned it for a store credit. Then I added $150 to it and voila, got the 60 GB iPod with video. In black, of course. And the accessories: dock, remote control, video cable and case. I intend to fill it with 150 hours of video with an all gay-porn selection and watch them on my next flight to Manila. That should be better than the movie selection on those flights anyway. Hahaha!!!
